It's like 1999 all over again

You can discuss more than just generals, actually.

It's like 1999 all over again

Post by Creole Ned » Fri Oct 06, 2017 8:53 pm

Yes, phpBB, just like I used back when people still had 3dfx video cards.

We'll see what sort of activity we get before I look into trying to restore all of the old posts again. I know everyone is eager to relive the memory of me banning pogo all over again.

EDIT: And no smilies, for now. >:)

I sort of want to party, but not in a manner befitting 1999 precisely.

EDIT: Proving my tyranny, I have made Elegance the default style. You can switch back to prosilver (the default default) using the steps cleverly detailed below.

By the way, I added a theme called Elegance that puts avatars/profile info on the left side where it belongs. You can find it in your profile settings under Board Preferences and My Board Style.

I am here. I tried to upload an avatar but it claims the image is 4800xsomething something (it isn't, it is 150x120). I am here though. =)

I thought you'd dropped off the face of the world, Tai. Never see you online anymore. But then, I'm rarely online with Steam myself these days.

Ah, I spent the last year playing a non steam game. I'm done with that though. It was fun while it lasted, but as with all MMOs, took up too much of my time. =P

By the by, if you keep in touch with other Martians/QBs. let them know there is a forum once again.

If there's sufficient interest I will once again attempt to go mad by trying to revive the old database.

I really am not a fan of the current incarnation of phpBB. It's free and...that's its biggest asset.

That said, I dislike vBulletin, which is most definitely not free, even more.

Therefore I am going to devote time over the upcoming winter break to get Xenforo working with the old database. This will both give us back our fabled QB/MC history as well as decent forum software.

Also, I'm perversely mulling over another name change for the group. Why, I can't say precisely. It feels like MC no longer fits like it once may have and QB, which I have a certain nostalgia for, still has potential censoring issues, which is what prompted the name change to MC to begin eith.

Hmm, I say.

I'm definitely on the side that wants to go back to Quirky Bastards. Anywhere censoring is a problem, we can always use the "QB" abbreviation, or maybe even something like "QuirkyBs".

QuirkyB's sounds like either a youth-oriented rap group or a dubious family restaurant chain.

Point taken about abbreviating to QB, though.

I officially own quirkybastards.com again. I'm not promising anything, just saying.

(There's no website attached to it yet so you'll only get an error if you visit.)

I'd have bought it if you didn't. Not sure I'd do anything with it either, but I've missed it.

I really like this. =) Obviously I talk to shadowrat almost daily, I'll see who else I can let know - I believe I saw Budly on steam not too long ago.

I admit I haven't been on here for months, but the issues the board had been experiencing have been fixed. Hooray.

I'd really like to get the old database back up and running. It feels like the history of QB/MC is locked away.

But really, Facebook and other social media have more or less killed most forums.

Damn that social media!! And th #mc irc channel! I finally got my password reset. I have these forums as my home page. ;)

Paladin, I picked up a Vive Pro after Thanksgiving, I'm currently planning on making myself nauseous with Subnautica, Project Cars 2, Elite Dangerous, and, of course, Team Fortress 2...

I haven't taken the VR plunge yet. I just don't feel like the hardware isn't there yet. Plus, I like to watch TV while I play, which is why I don't do consoles.

Mostly playing Overwatch here, plus a little WoW now and then.

I agree it is certainly a toy, and not the best way to play games. Yet. Once they start sending the signal directly to the optical nerve, we're gonna have fun though. :)
